greeeeeen finger

We’ve got a full house this week. We have Skye staying with us…

My work assistant.

And Kevin is here this week too! He hasn’t stayed with us in a YEAR! I mean obviously the world has gone crazy but the little bit of normalcy by having Kevin stay over is really nice.
I don’t have a pic of Kevin to post here like I did for Skye because Kevin is still in bed LOL.

Not much else to report for this past week. Been working on Sailor Jupiter but I’ll get to all that at the end. I felt bad pretty much all weekend, I think thanks to the hurricane Delta that pushed up into Memphis Friday-Saturday. Migraine-y and tired.

Chase surprised me with this last week!

The Leia and Chewie ornament! It’s soo cute! I think I’ll probably leave it out year round in my sewing room.

On to Jupiter progress… I’m rushing this a bit more than I originally thought I would be, because the weekend of 10/24-10/25, Chase is renting a new camera and wants to get as much use out of it as possible, so we’re going to do another white backdrop shoot… so I want to have this done for that.

I found some boots I liked on Target, they had free 2 day shipping so I just ordered them. It ended up being 3 days which was a little annoying but when the box arrived, it came like this:

One flap totally missing and just barely taped shut. I dunno if target sent it like that or a flap got ripped off when USPS had it. I’m willing to bet it’s USPS.

Thankfully the boots were fine and they actually fit really well and seem to be pretty comfortable. Yay!

I had 2 tubes of green fabric paint from Belle’s library dress last year that I didn’t use, the green wasn’t quite right – but it was perfect for this. Swatched it on the tongue of one of the boots first and it looked great, so started painting them last night.

I need to order some white shoelaces.

So last week my leotard fabric came, and my leotard pattern, so I jumped right into that. I really like the Green Pepper leotard pattern. I went ahead and got 2 layers cut out, because I wanted to self-line it, and that looked like just enough leftover for the chestpiece and puffy sleeve pieces. Buuuuut… I got to rethinking it. The leotard fit fine. But… just fine. Basically it fit everywhere except my bust. It was really tight through there and, while it’s probably a none issue since once I put the chestpiece on it won’t be noticeable, I just felt like it looked weird and maybe I should recut. But I didn’t have enough fabric for that… so I ordered 2 more yards and they’ll be here tuesday. So that’s why you see no leotard in any of these photos.

Since I had to wait on the fabric to come I went back to working on everything else – at least since I had A leotard to put on I was able to get an idea of where the skirt should sit on me, and finished it off:

I got the pleats sewn down and decided to put a zipper in the center back to make it easier to get off and on. I was checking the fit before installing the zipper and with it sitting at my natural waistline, it was a tad big. So I undid the pleats towards the back to make them a little deeper to take the width in a bit. Then once it was fitting better I put the zipper in, and then did the white waistroll (out of neoprene and leotard fabric). Sewed it on by machine one side and finished it by hand on the inside. Once that was finished I went to attach the bow and discovered… my center back was now sitting about 2 inchees to the right. Oops. I guess I didn’t take up those pleats as evenly as I thought. I didn’t want to undo everything so I left it – it’ll be hidden by the bow. And it made it easier to attach the bow – I sewed a snap on so I can remove the bow if I need to. And the skirt will eventually also snap to the leotard. I do still need to re-press the pleats.

She’s cute tho even with an uneven backside.

I did a test of some vinyl we had on hand to see if it stuck ok to the sequin fabric, for the white stripes on the collar. Worked fine – just picked up the texture of the sequins. I can deal with that.

Took this pic of my collar so I could take it into photoshop and draw the stripes. White vinyl showed up yesterday – Chase is going to print it for me on the silhouette tonight. Before I apply it I want to flip the collar back inside out (that’s why that one part is all wrinkled looking – I haven’t closed it up yet), and make sure those points are trimmed because I don’t think I did that before flipping it right side out.

I also finished the gloves.

Bought the white gloves on amazon, and used pattern from Yaya Han’s McCall’s pattern to do the puffs. Added layers of neoprene to give it some shape… I’d have preferred quilting batting but didn’t have any and was too lazy to go get any. (And I couldn’t get regular batting in the very small channels). I’m fine with it.

I also did a test of the puffs for the arm openings. My test ended up way too big, but it’s a good start for when I’m ready for it.

So all that’s left is:
-Find my ponytail (it wasn’t in my Jupiter box)
-3d Print tiara/paint
-3d print brooch holder, attach to bow
-Finish bow, attach to collar
-make new leotard
-finish chest panel, attach
-make arm opening puffs, attach
-sew snaps onto leotard/skirt, sew collar in place
-3d print belt pieces, paint
-find stuff for the rose container thing. I think I have clear plastic ornaments somewhere for that. Or at least I used to. I may not anymore.
-Finish painting boots

I think I can do all that the rest of this week/this weekend.

I said I wasn’t going to reuse anything from my original Jupiter but I changed my mind:

I’m going to use my hair bobbles and my rose earrings from the original version. Somehow I still have both. I dunno how the rose earrings aren’t lost because I stopped wearing them once I changed it over to Eternal and wore star earrings. Which means I haven’t worn these rose earrings since… 2001? LOL.

And last thing for today – Still listing stuff on ebay. Star Wars toys, shoes, comics, clothes. More stuff to come as I have time to list it.

Also I should say I’m covered in green paint from painting my boots last night and that’s why this post is called green finger because I keep saying it in my head like “gold finger.”
